BIOEFFECT Barley is sustainable, uniquely pure and grown in inert volcanic pumice, using geothermal energy and pure Icelandic water enriched with nutrients. Our hydroponic, ecologically-engineered greenhouse can nurture up to 130,000 barley plants at a time and is nestled in the lava fields of Reykjanes Peninsula, only 50 km from our HQ in Reykjavik.

BIOEFFECT was founded by three Icelandic scientists when they developed a method to bioengineer plant-based growth factors using techniques of plant biotechnology. One of these growth factors is EGF (Epidermal Growth Factor), BIOEFFECT's signature skincare ingredient.
